North Korea Criticizes US Nuclear Strategy and Promises Enhanced Nuclear Development

Citing a New York Times report earlier this week, the US leader is said to have green-lighted the revised strategy in March, when he was briefed that Beijing's growing nuclear arsenal, and possible coordinated atomic threats by North Korea, China, and Russia, called for modernizing operational plans for nuclear strikes.

North Korea issued a strong renunciation of the US's newly revised nuclear strategy and stated that it would bolster its nuclear power commensurately.

Citing a New York Times report earlier this week, the US leader is said to have green-lighted the revised strategy in March, when he was briefed that Beijing's growing nuclear arsenal, and possible coordinated atomic threats by North Korea, China, and Russia, called for modernizing operational plans for nuclear strikes.

The changed approach, broadly renamed "Nuclear Employment Guidance," was approved by Biden in light of increased nuclear and missile threats emanating from North Korea, a surge in the Chinese nuclear arsenal, and increasing, ever more menacing nuclear rhetoric from Moscow.

On these regards, a spokesman from the North Korean Foreign Ministry commented, in a statement carried by the state-run Korea Central News Agency, that it would go on strengthening strategic capacities against what he termed threats from a revised U.S. nuclear stance. The spokesperson clarified that North Korea would not abandon such means in self-defense to defend its sovereignty and security interests from any nuclear threat.

He confirmed the North would go ahead and continue to build its powerful nuclear force at its own pace while the US continued to harp on about the nuclear threat from a host of nations, including North Korea.

The most recent developments increase the concerns related to the nuclear threat, because Russia strengthens its strategic partnership with North Korea and China against the backdrop of its isolation over the ongoing Ukraine war. In June, Russia and North Korea signed a sealed "comprehensive strategic partnership". On another front, Russia and China feted their "no limits" partnership even as the US rebuked China for its role in backing Russia's military industrial complex.
