Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, invoked once again the two-nation theory, emphasizing India-Pakistan ideological and cultural split. His observations were made at a speech while attending the Overseas Pakistani Convention in Islamabad on Wednesday.
General Munir requested that Pakistani citizens, particularly overseas Pakistani citizens, ensure future generations realize the history of the nation. ".Our ancestors believed that we were different from Hindus in all walks of life," said Munir. "Our faith is different, our practices are different, our traditions are different, our minds are different, our ambitions are different. That's where the foundation of the two-nation theory was created. We are two nations, we are not one nation."
Pointing to the sacrifices of the past made while making Pakistan, Munir stressed that the nation should keep its narrative intact. "Our ancestors have sacrificed a lot, and we have sacrificed a lot for the establishment of this country, and we know how to protect it," he added.
He requested the audience to leave behind the legacy of Pakistan for the youth: "My dear brothers and sisters and sons and daughters, please don't forget the story of Pakistan and don't forget to narrate the story of Pakistan to your next generation, so that their bond with Pakistan never weakens. Whether it is the third generation, or the fourth generation, or the fifth generation, they know what Pakistan is for them."
The Army Chief also gave a stern warning to the Baloch militants, saying that terrorist threats do not present any actual threat to the unity of the country. Referring to local reports covered by ANI, he explained, "Even ten generations of terrorists cannot harm Balochistan and Pakistan."
Reiterating the army's resolve to combat extremism, Munir asserted, "We will beat the hell out of these terrorists very soon.you think, these 1500 terrorists belonging to BLA, BLF and BRA, etc, can take away Balochistan from us…
He also questioned the belief that such extremist groups might control the fate of the nation: "Do Pakistan's foes believe that a few terrorists can determine Pakistan's fate?.even ten generations of terrorists cannot destroy Balochistan and Pakistan."
Munir also praised the role of the overseas Pakistanis, acknowledging their continued devotion and loyalty towards the country.
