'Pak effort for Taliban return via power-sharing can be undermined by quick pull-out'

The report titled "Pakistan: Shoring Up Afghanistan's Peace Process", compiled by the Washington/Brusselsbased think tank, warns that the quick withdrawal of foreign troops would have a direct impact on Pakistan-US and Pakistan-Kabul ties. "Should the Afghan peace process continue to sputter or altogether fail, Islamabad's relations with Kabul and Washington would sour," it warns.
Myanmar's military junta releases 2,200 prisoners

Most of those released had been charged with incitement for joining anti-regime protests, according to the regime's spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun. "A total of 2,296 people have been released. They took part in protests, but not in leading roles. They didn't participate in violent acts," he told the Burmese media on Thursday.
WHO calls for price cut on drug for Covid-linked black fungus

Developed by California-based drugmaker Gilead Sciences, AmBisome is a lipid-based amphotericin, used to treat the black fungus infections, which starts in the nose and quickly spreads to the eyes and brain. Afghan airstrikes kill 33 militants

Acting on a tip-off, the fighter jets targeted Taliban the gatherings in parts of the restive districts on Wednesday afternoon, killing 33 insurgents and injuring 19 others, Xinhua news agency quoted the spokesman as saying. Taliban militants have reportedly captured more than 70 districts since the start of the withdrawal of the US-led forces from Afghanistan on May 1.
Ex-US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld passes away

Afghan forces foil Taliban attack, 20 militants killed

Hundreds of Taliban insurgents launched the multi-pronged offensive on Ghoryan district early Thursday morning, but the security forces retaliated forcing the insurgents to flee leaving 20 bodies behind, the statement said. Ten more militants were injured in the counter-offensive backed by fighter jets, Xinhua news agency quoted the statement as saying.
Delta variant threat forces US to reconsider mask mandate

The Delta variant, which is more contagious and aggressive than others, reached nearly every state and accounted for 26.1 per cent of the total confirmed cases, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "I'm concerned about the Delta variant," Xinhua news agency quoted the country's Surgeon General Vivek Murthy as saying on Wednesday.
