EU, UK open anti-trust probes into Facebook over data abuse
The European Commission opened a formal probe to assess whether Facebook violated EU competition rules by using advertising data gathered in particular from advertisers in order to compete with them in markets where Facebook is active such as classified ads. The formal investigation will also assess whether Facebook ties its online classified ads service "Facebook Marketplace" to its social network, in breach of EU competition rules.
Nigeria suspends Twitter 'indefinitely' over president's deleted tweet

Covid 19 Update: Global caseload tops 172.4mn
In its latest update on Saturday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 172,449,514 and 3,708,248, respectively. The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 33,342,974 and 596,999, respectively, according to the CSSE.
Biden rejects new Republican offer, to continue infrastructure talks next week
During a phone call with the president Friday, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, the top Republican negotiator, proposed a new offer to increase about $50 billion in spending across a number of infrastructure programs, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement. "The President expressed his gratitude for her effort and goodwill, but also indicated that the current offer did not meet his objectives to grow the economy, " Psaki said.
Facebook suspends Trump's accounts for 2 years under new rules
"We are today announcing new enforcement protocols to be applied in exceptional cases such as this, and we are confirming the time-bound penalty consistent with those protocols which we are applying to Mr. Trump's accounts... We believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols."
