Iraqi parliament to elect new president on Feb 7
The decision was made after a meeting between Parliamentary Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi and his two deputies, during which they agreed to hold another parliamentary session to continue constitutional processes toward forming a new government, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement issued by the parliament. The meeting also decided to announce the names of the candidates who are eligible to run for Iraqi president on January 31, it said.
Protests break out in Nepal against China's interference

A SpaceX rogue rocket has put India’s Chandrayaan-2 in jeopardy. The rocket is on a course to crash land on the moon after floating around in space for nearly 7 years. The rocket, Falcon 9, was launched in February 2015 from Florida and was an interplanetary mission to deploy weather satellite on a million-mile journey across the space. The debris in question, the second stage of the rocket, wasn’t left with enough fuel to traverse the return path.
Israel joins NASA-led Artemis space mission to land humans on Moon, Mars
Israel on Wednesday signed the Artemis Accords and joined the US-led programme to land human beings on the Moon by 2025 and later on Mars, Israel Space Agency (ISA) said on Wednesday. The agreement, signed by NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and ISA Director-General Uri Oron, sets out principles for cooperation in space exploration and civil use of the Moon, Mars, comets and asteroids for peaceful purposes, ISA added.
Taliban govt stops media outlets from holding conference
The Taliban government in Afghanistan prevented media outlets from holding a press conference in Kabul over concerns about the status of media in the country, reported media organizations. The conference was supposed to be held on Wednesday in Kabul, reported TOLO News. The Afghanistan Journalist Center in a statement said the conference was to be attended by 11 representatives from different media organizations.
Russia conducts large-scale drills in Black Sea amid Ukraine tensions
The naval group, which consists of frigates, patrol ships, missile ships, landing ships, anti-submarine ships and minesweepers, was sailing towards the designated areas, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement released by the ministry. On the way to the drills, the Russian vessels will practice communications, safe maneuvers in areas with intensive navigation, and air defence, it added.

Some 412 blank ballots were cast on Wednesday, which signaled doubts were still strong about who would be the aptest figure to replace President Sergio Mattarella, whose seven-year term will end on February 3.
