Ousted Ukrainian President urges Zelensky to 'stop bloodshed'
Viktor Yanukovych, the fourth President of Ukraine who was ousted from power during the 2014 protests, have urged the country's incumbent leader Volodymyr Zelensky to "stop the bloodshed". Yanukovych, who currently lives in Russia in exile, said he wanted to "address Volodymyr Zelensky in a presidential capacity and even a little bit in a fatherly one", Ukrayinska Pravda reported citing the Moscow-based RIA Novosti news agency.
Japan marks 2nd highest current account deficit on record
The deficit was the highest since January 2014, according to a preliminary report released by the Finance Ministry. The country's current account balance, one of the widest gauges of international trade, remained in the red for the second straight month, reports Xinhua news agency. As Japan relies heavily on energy imports, surging energy prices due to the Covid-19 pandemic caused a goods trade deficit of 1.60 trillion yen.

Tirumurti reported to the Security Council about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intercession with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine for a ceasefire and a return to diplomacy. Conscripts, reservists don't & won't take part in Ukraine conflict: Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said that conscripts and reservists "do not and will not" participate in Moscow's ongoing war in Ukraine. In a video put out by the Kremlin on the occasion of International Women's Day, the President emphasized that "soldiers who are doing military service do not and will not participate in hostilities. There will be no additional call-up of reservists from the reserve.
Russia becomes world's most sanctioned country
Due to its war on Ukraine, Russia has become the most sanctioned in the world, according to a New York-based sanctions watchlist site. Castellum.AI said that sanctions were first imposed by the US and its allies on Russia on February 22 a day after President Vladimir Putin declared the two Ukrainian rebel regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as "independent states". After Russia announced its military operations against Russia on February 24, hundreds more sanctions followed.

Afghan media faces far-reaching censorship, violence: HRW
Human Rights Watch (HRW) said that media in Afghanistan is facing "far-reaching censorship" and "violence," stressing that the situation is much worse in districts and provincial centers compared to Kabul and big urban centres. The revelation was made in a report which had findings from interviews condccted since November 2021. The non-profit spoke to 24 journalists and other media workers in 17 provinces.
Ukraine says pace of Russian troops 'slows significantly'
In the update posted on its Facebook page, it said that the Defense Forces Group has continued to conduct operations within the south, eastern and northern zones across specific boundaries. Meanwhile, defence operations are also underway in the city of Chernihiv and capital Kiev. It added that the country's air defences were successfully repulsing missile and air strikes.
