A new media poll suggests the US presidential race heats up between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. The survey in its details also showed that Harris now draws more significant support from non-white voters and increased enthusiasm among Democratic voters behind her campaign. In a direct comparison, Trump held a narrow lead of 49 percent while Harris took 47 percent in the Wall Street Journal poll.
Of course, this margin is well within the poll's error range of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. In the previous poll, Trump had held a six-point lead over President Joe Biden before Biden dropped out and threw his support to Harris, according to the Xinhua news agency.
With other candidates, such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Harris earned 45% to Trump's 44%. Kennedy drew 4%, while 5% of respondents were undecided.
In the previous poll, Biden trailed Trump by six points when more than two candidates were matched up against each other.
The opposite sides are, in fact, performing their preliminary work in a bid to try and create the public persona of Harris. A new poll currently indicates that 46% view Harris positively, while 52% view her negatively.
The poll also indicated that Trump was seen as more competent to handle immigration, the economy, foreign relations, and crime. On abortion, though, Harris is more trusted to tackle the issue, with 51 percent siding with her against 33 percent for Trump.
Their concern for people like the respondents was another area where the two candidates came close.
Also, 48 percent say Trump, who is 78, is too old to be president; just 2 percent say the same of the 59-year-old Harris. Finally, 46 percent think Harris has the right temperament to be president; 38 percent say that about Trump.
It also indicated that a lot of voters are still familiarizing themselves with the would-be vice presidential candidates being considered by Harris. She is expected to announce her pick by August 7 to beat her party's deadline for a virtual nomination.
The Wall Street Journal poll of 1,000 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. It was conducted July 23-25 by Bocian of GBAO and Lee of Fabrizio Lee.
