Amid rumors that she is suffering from throat cancer, Pakistan's Punjab Province Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Wednesday said that her treatment was underway, but that she was fine.
She made the comment while talking to journalists in London after spending a short time in Switzerland where she had gone last week for her treatment.
"My treatment is underway, but I am fine," said 51-year-old Maryam, without revealing the details of her ailment.
Maryam was taken to the Sharif Medical Complex in Lahore before she left for Switzerland for her glands issue. She is reported to have undergone gland surgery last year.
Maryam's illness reminds one of her mother, Kulsoom Nawaz, who breathed her last in October last year, suffering from throat cancer.
Increasing public concern over her health as rumor of possible cancer diagnosis circulated. However, Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb cleared that the issue with Maryam's health is due to a thyroid condition where in tests she has recently shown high values and needs medical attention.
"There's been no word of cancer," Aurangzeb said adding that Maryam is waiting for more test results to come in.
Meanwhile, while Punjab grinds to a halt in the grip of thick smog, her father-ex-PM Nawaz Sharif-and his daughter Maryam are under criticism for spending time abroad in Europe.
The other day, there was a video which went viral-by heckling Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam-at Pakistani expatriates in Switzerland.
The reaction came swiftly from the incident, with Nawaz condemning what he called a "culture of intolerance," shifting the responsibility to Imran Khan's party for instigating young people to behave disrespectfully toward their political opponents, while neglecting their cultural and religious values.
