Fresh nuclear drills announced by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, are raising tensions in the ongoing conflict over Ukraine, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
NATO says it is launching its nuclear exercise Steadfast Noon Monday, calling the drills "an important test of the Alliance's nuclear deterrent and sends a clear message to any adversary that NATO will protect and defend all Allies."
This form of exercises, of course, in the context of a hot war, being waged within the framework of the Ukrainian conflict, leads to nothing but escalation of tensions, Peskov said, according to Xinhua news agency.
Commenting on a statement by German foreign intelligence chief Bruno Kahl, who said the Russian forces apparently have enough strength by the end of this decade to attack NATO states, Peskov argued that such claims are inaccurate and illogical.
Such prospects for confrontation with Russia never brought the military infrastructure of NATO closer to Russia's borders; Russia moved its military infrastructure far from the boundaries with NATO.
