Kamala Harris, Democratic Presidential Nominee, has dismissed Donald Trump's suggestion to move their next debate to Fox News, according to press reports.
Back in May, Trump, 78, along with President Joe Biden, had agreed to hold two presidential debates. One debate was held in June and appeared on CNN, while the second debate, which is scheduled for September 10, was to be hosted by ABC News. But Biden pulled out of the race last month, leaving Harris as the Democratic candidate for 2024.
Trump announced that he had agreed to an invitation from Fox News to debate Harris on September 4, which is a shift in comparison with the initial agreement, according to CBS News. Trump wrote, "I'm delighted to announce that I'm going to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, Sept 4, with Fox News. You won't be able to watch the debate that has previously been scheduled with sleepy Joe Biden on ABC because of ongoing legal disputes and conflicts involving ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos.".
In return, Harris turned down Trump's invitation to debate on platform X for Fox News. She took to Twitter to say, "Curious how 'any time, any place' turns into 'one specific time, one specific safe space.' I'll be there on September 10, as agreed. I look forward to him being there too."
The campaign said that Harris would follow through with the schedule in the ABC News debate. They said Trump was attempting to dodge the debate with ABC News by calling on Fox News for cover. Harris campaign communication director Michael Tyler said, "He needs to stop dodging the debate and come on for the September 10 debate he committed to." Tyler added that Harris is eager to speak to a prime-time national audience and will only consider talking about more debates after the one already committed to has occurred.
