In an unfortunate incident, a reported Israeli missile strike targeted a residential area in Damascus, resulting in casualties among Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers and civilians. According to an anonymous source, the attack hit a two-story building, with the second floor housing an IRGC unit. At least four IRGC members, including two high-ranking advisers, lost their lives, along with civilians in the building.
Rescue operations are underway to recover bodies from the rubble, and a local eyewitness mentioned that a Palestinian family living on the ground floor is believed to be buried under debris. The Syrian army confirmed the strike, stating it originated from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, causing casualties, complete destruction of the targeted building, and damage to nearby structures.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed six deaths, including one Syrian civilian, three IRGC members, and two individuals of unknown nationality. The attack is speculated to be in response to the IRGC's recent activities, including an assault on an intelligence base in Erbil, Iraq. Tensions between Iran and Israel have been escalating, with Israel targeting Iranian sites in Syria and pro-Iran militias retaliating against U.S. interests. The situation raises concerns about a broader confrontation in the region, as warned by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
