Iran Reveals Fattah II Hypersonic Missile in Recent Unveiling

The upgraded Fattah II features a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV), enabling the missile to achieve maximum speeds.

On Monday, the Revolutionary Guards of Iran unveiled the hypersonic missile Fattah II. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, revealed the missile at the Ashura Aerospace Science and Technology University. This follows Iran's successful test-firing of the Fatah I in June 2023.

The upgraded Fattah II features a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV), enabling the missile to achieve maximum speeds. Reports indicate that the Fattah II can reach speeds ranging from Mach 5 to 20, equivalent to 6170 to 24700 kilometers per hour. According to Iranian media, the missile surpasses the capabilities of advanced anti-ballistic missiles possessed by Israel and the United States.

Given the ongoing conflicts in the region, particularly Israel's engagements with Hamas in Gaza and skirmishes with Iran-backed Hezbollah in the West Bank, the unveiling of this new missile by Iran adds a significant dimension to the verbal exchanges between Iran and Israel.

Israel views Iran as a key supporter of both Hamas and Hezbollah, with recent reports suggesting collaboration between Hamas and Hezbollah military commanders in armed training. The development of advanced missiles further intensifies regional tensions.
