Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday envisioned a strong alliance of Japan's technological expertise and India's vast size to make the Asian century with stability, growth, and prosperity.
Addressing the India-Japan Economic Forum, PM Modi pointed out that Japanese companies have invested over $40 billion in India, with the automotive industry being a shining example of manufacturing success.
He underlined the importance of emulating this success in sectors like batteries, robotics, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and nuclear energy.
"India and Japan's relationship is a strategic and intelligent one. Driven by economic sense, we have converted convergent interests into convergent prosperity. India is the gateway to Japanese business to the Global South. Together we will make the Asian century a century of stability, growth and prosperity," PM Modi stated.
He pointed out that India has already opened defence and space businesses and is now opening up nuclear energy too to private investment.
PM Modi also added that Japan is a technology powerhouse whereas India is a talent powerhouse.
"India has initiated bold and ambitious projects in AI, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, and space. The convergence of Japanese technology and Indian talent can drive the tech revolution of this century," he added.
Referring to India's rising stature globally, he emphasized that the nation is increasingly being seen as a major driver of international growth and stability.
"The world is not only watching India, it is counting on India," he asserted.
Terming India as a "powerhouse of talent," he encouraged Japanese corporate leaders to "make in India, make for the world."
Highlighting cooperation in green energy, PM Modi said, "India is quickly steaming ahead to meet a vision of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030. We have also envisioned 100 GW of nuclear energy by 2047. Whether it is solar panels or green hydrogen, there are huge collaboration possibilities between India and Japan. By utilizing the joint credit mechanism, we can work together in creating a clean and green future."
He also highlighted India's talented workforce as an asset to speed up Japan's growth.
"India's skilled youth talent has the potential to cater to global demand, and Japan can draw from it too. You must train Indian talent in the Japanese language and other skilled segments in order to develop a Japan-ready workforce together. This skilled workforce will satisfy global needs," PM Modi added.
