In a regrettable case of mistaken identity, three Israeli hostages lost their lives in northern Gaza's Shejaiya neighborhood as a result of an incident involving Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops on Friday.
IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari issued a statement on Friday night, taking full responsibility for the "tragic incident" that transpired in the morning. The military clarified that the episode unfolded in an area where the soldiers had encountered numerous terrorists, including suicide bombers.
The three hostages who tragically lost their lives in the crossfire were identified as Yohan Haim, who had been abducted by Hamas from Kibbutz Kfar Aza, Samar Fouad Talalka, abducted from Nir Am, and Alon Shamriz, also hailing from Kfar Aza.
Hagari acknowledged that the incident occurred in Shejaiya, a Gaza neighborhood that had witnessed intense conflict in recent days. The IDF expressed its deep remorse for the loss of innocent lives in this unfortunate event.
