Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for his "clear support" for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of the UN Summit of the Future to discuss the current situation in Ukraine and possible ways to peace.
Zelensky thanked Modi for the good conversation on X.
We are having our third bilateral meeting this year. We are working together for further cooperation in all spheres, he said.
Citing strengthening engagement at the global forums, Zelensky has said, "The focus of our discussion is on strengthening our interaction on global platforms, foremost at the UN and G20, as well as putting into practice the Peace Formula and arrangements for the second Peace Summit. We had a useful discussion on the opportunities that lie ahead.".
"I am thankful that Prime Minister Modi is a strong voice on behalf of our sovereignty and territorial integrity," Zelensky wrote, highlighting the stand India has taken on the diplomatic front in the conflict.
During the meeting, PM Modi reiterated India's resolve to peacefully resolve the war through diplomacy and dialogue.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Modi underlined India's "clear, consistent, and constructive" approach that acts on engagement between all stakeholders.
After the meeting, PM Modi shared a post on X where he said: "Met President Zelensky in New York. Committed to implementing outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month in furthering bilateral ties. Reiterated India's support for early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and restoration of peace and stability."
This was the third meeting between the leaders in just over three months. In fact, the two agreed to maintain close contact, according to the MEA.
PM Modi's visit to Ukraine in August 2022 marked India's active engagement in promoting peace in the war-torn region. This visit was a first by an Indian PM since Ukraine and India established diplomatic relations in 1992.
It has been considered neutral in the involvement of Russia and Ukraine, but if anything has happened or been said recently, he has always been vocal to a peaceful resolution, that once reaffirms India's stand as a status quo contractor.
