The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has chosen to recall its ambassador from Israel for consultations in response to Israel's refusal to agree to a ceasefire and the cessation of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israel has already recalled its ambassador from Turkey.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement confirming the recall of Ambassador Sakir Ozkan Torunlar from his post in Israel. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan further escalated tensions by announcing the suspension of contact with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing Israel's actions against Hamas as the reason for the diplomatic rift.
President Erdogan has defended Hamas's October 7 attack, characterizing the group as a liberation movement. This stance has exacerbated the strained relations between Turkey and Israel.
Israel has withdrawn its diplomats not only from Turkey but also from other regional countries following the events of October 7, intensifying the diplomatic standoff in the region.
