Chinese Foreign Ministry Expresses Shock Over Karachi Attack

The spokesperson issued the statement amid Tuesday's terrorist attack at Sindh Province, Pakistan, that had resulted in the deaths and injuries of Chinese personnel. The attack on a convoy of a Chinese project occurred near the Jinnah International Airport of Karachi around 11 pm Sunday local time. Casualties occurred from both Chinese and Pakistanis. From the Chinese, two were killed and one was injured.

China asked Pakistan to make more targeted measures and provide full protection for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, as well as for safety and security for Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in the country, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

The spokesperson said China is deeply shocked by the attack against Chinese citizens and strongly condemns this terrorist act. "We deeply mourn the victims and our thoughts are with their families."

The spokesperson said the Chinese Foreign Ministry and Embassy and Consulates General in Pakistan activated the emergency response mechanism right away and quickly started handling the incident.

The Chinese side requested Pakistan to make every effort to rescue the wounded and deal with the aftermath, probe the case speedily, track down the culprits, and ensure them justice, Xinhua news agency reported.

China also demanded efforts effectively to close security loopholes and more targeted measures to bring full protection to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the safety and security of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in Pakistan, according to the spokesperson, as the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has issued another alert, reminding Chinese citizens, enterprises, and projects in the country to keep a close eye on the local security situation, strengthen security measures, and take precaution for safety.
