Bangladesh's Information Adviser, Mahfuj Alam, assured on Friday that the nation's polls will go ahead as scheduled in December and called upon all political parties to begin preparations for the spectacle, informed sources said.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus also reaffirmed that the elections would be conducted on time, announcing that the schedule for the December election had already been fixed and that the election would be conducted within the time frame. Mahfuj stressed preparation, telling all parties to prepare for the forthcoming elections.
Mahfuj hoped that the elections would be on schedule if political parties played their roles responsibly, did not sabotage the process, and if state institutions were to work in coordination. The Daily Star reported that Yunus previously said that the government would hold the elections in December only if political parties were willing to accept a limited range of reforms.
Though he pointed out that the elections may be postponed for several months should the parties urge for broader reforms.
