President Donald Trump revealed on Friday plans for the US military to introduce a new generation of fighter planes, F-47s. A less advanced variant will be offered to US allies. Boeing is developing the plane.
“The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built,” President Trump stated during a speech from the Oval Office, accompanied by Secretary of State Pete Hegseth and a top military general.
He further revealed that an experimental model of the aircraft has been flying secretly for nearly five years, asserting, “We’re confident that it massively overpowers the capabilities of any other nation.”
Secretary of Defense Hegseth highlighted the importance of the new plane, stating, "We've had the F-15, the F-16, the F-18, the F-22, the F-35, and now we have the F-47, which sends a very direct, clear message to our allies that we're not going anywhere, and to our enemies, that we can, and we will, be able to project power around the globe unimpeded for generations to come."
The President also mentioned that a new fleet of these “magnificent planes” would be built during his administration. “It’s ready to go,” he said, adding that much of the necessary production infrastructure, including the sheds, has already been established. “We’ve given an order for a lot,” he added, ensuring continued American dominance in the skies.
Trump asserted that the F-47 would be made available to some of the allies as well, commenting, "Our allies are calling all the time. They want to purchase them. And we will sell them, perhaps versions toned down. We'd like to downgrade their capability by about 10%, which seems appropriate, because perhaps someday, they're no longer our allies."
No price details were made public. "We can't disclose the price," Trump said, "because it would indicate some of the technology and the size of the production facility.
One of the most prominent features of the F-47 is that it can fly with drones. "This aircraft flies with drones; it flies with lots and lots of drones, as many as you need," Trump explained. "It doesn't fly alone. It flies with drones, as many as we need, and no other aircraft can do that."
The project to develop the aircraft is called "The Next Generation of Air Dominance."
“This is a big day for our United States Air Force as well,” said Air Force Chief of Staff General David Alvin. He called the F-47 “the crown jewel in the next generation air dominance family of systems,” and concluded, “We’re gonna be able to keep that promise. Welcome to the future.”
