Azerbaijan has alleged that India was taking "revenge" on international platforms against Baku because of its close association with Pakistan.
The charge follows Azerbaijani claims of India stalling its application for SCO full membership. Azerbaijani media have charged New Delhi of ignoring the values of "multilateral diplomacy" and hinted that the move was connected with Baku's alignment of its actions with those of Pakistan in Operation Sindoor.
In a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Tianjin in China, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev praised Islamabad on what he termed as Pakistan's triumph over India in the conflict between the two nations earlier this year.
He claimed that irrespective of what India was doing on international platforms, Baku would never compromise on its "brotherhood" with Islamabad, the Turkish daily Daily Sabah reported.
Aliyev pointed out that the relationship between Azerbaijan and Pakistan is firm on robust political, cultural, and strategic grounds. He also talked about increasing trade and economic cooperation through the Azerbaijani-Pakistani intergovernmental commission, the report further said.
Earlier, Azerbaijani media outlet AnewZ had reported that New Delhi had "once again" blocked Azerbaijan's bid to join the SCO.
"India has once again blocked Azerbaijan's application for full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, whilst Pakistan's recent decision to consider diplomatic relations with Armenia has been coordinated with Baku as part of Azerbaijan's peace agenda," AnewZ reported.
Azerbaijan openly backed Pakistan in Operation Sindoor, India's cross-border military action against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. It issued a statement expressing its concern over the further aggravation of tension between the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Baku has also intensified its defence, trade, and regional security cooperation with Islamabad in recent years.
