Asif Ali Zardari Sworn In as Pakistan's 14th President

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, in the presence of outgoing President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, top military officials, political figures, and foreign dignitaries.

Asif Ali Zardari was sworn in as the 14th President of Pakistan in a ceremony held at the President’s House on Sunday, as announced by the President’s Office.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, in the presence of outgoing President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, top military officials, political figures, and foreign dignitaries.

In the preceding Saturday's elections, Zardari, the Co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party Parliamentarians, secured victory with 411 votes, triumphing over his competitors who garnered a total of 181 votes across all electoral colleges, including the parliament and four provincial assemblies, as confirmed by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Zardari, the candidate of the ruling coalition, amassed 255 votes in a combined session of the two parliamentary houses, comprising the Senate and the National Assembly. Additionally, he received 43 votes from the eastern Punjab province, eight from the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 47 from the southwest Balochistan province, and 58 from the southern Sindh province, according to the Xinhua news agency.

This marks the 68-year-old Zardari's second term as President, following his earlier tenure from 2008 to 2013. Notably, he becomes the first civilian in the country's history to hold this position for a second time.
