All that is left for them now is to murder me: Imran Khan's Stark Warning

From his jail cell in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, Khan wrote an op-ed in the UK's Telegraph in which he alleged that powerful military command was plotting his murder, even though he has been doing time on various charges, including corruption, incitement to violence, and violation of national security.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of the PTI party, Imran Khan, has alleged lack of security for himself and his wife and has placed direct blame on Pakistan's COAS, General Syed Asim Munir, should anything happen to him.

From his jail cell in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, Khan wrote an op-ed in the UK's Telegraph in which he alleged that powerful military command was plotting his murder, even though he has been doing time on various charges, including corruption, incitement to violence, and violation of national security.

Despite being behind the bars, Khan felt that all the charges against him are politically motivated. He complained that Pakistan is now a laughing stock of the international community. According to him, the nation is disturbed about how they feel that their voices are denied and their votes misused.

He felt that people were disturbed about the unprecedented criticism he faced against the military leadership. Khan criticized the government for failing. He blamed the COAS, General Asim Munir, for the failure of the government in restoring democracy in the country as an attempt to politically muzzle him.

Even though Khan was under severe threats, he announced his resolve to fight against oppression.

Khan said in his article that the country was heading towards grave crisis and he called for democracy to be restored, and all those detained in prisons, especially political ones jailed under the martial court of the military, be freed.

Khan's article is nothing but his acrimony towards the military leadership, especially General Asim Munir. It is a significant point that Khan had been against the appointment of Munir as the Army Chief. He had used his political clout to stall the move.

Khan blamed the former military chief, General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa for playing roles that triggered opposition alliances that resulted in his ousting through a Vote of No Confidence (VONC). Afterwards, Pakistan's political arena has been marked by turbulence, and PTI organized protests against the military and ruling elite.

In a show of solidarity, PTI workers earlier took military bases across the country in protest against Khan's arrest and called on the military to free him. On the other hand, authorities took a tough stance on PTI marches during the 2024 elections and backed Shehbaz Sharif to the premiership.

Imprisoned on corruption and other charges, Khan remains a central figure in Pakistan's chaotic political drama, trying to overthrow the status quo even though he is incarcerated.
