Ronaldinho Criticizes and Abandons Brazil Team, Calling it the 'Worst in Recent History'

Joining the criticism, Ronaldinho, in what to many will be an unexpected twist, considered himself as one, has ruled out even cheering for or even watching the national team.

Brazilian football, having had such a successful history, has degraded in the recent past years, far from the glory the Selecao are used to.

Joining the criticism, Ronaldinho, in what to many will be an unexpected twist, considered himself as one, has ruled out even cheering for or even watching the national team.

“That’s it guys, that’s it for me. This is a sad moment for those who love Brazilian football. It’s difficult to find the energy to watch the games. This is perhaps one of the worst teams in recent years, it has no respectable leaders, just average players for the most part,” Ronaldinho stated in an Instagram post.

Brazil, a team influential in the game and record holders of the most FIFA World Cup titles, has not won the title since their championship winning season back in 2002. Since winning their last championship, their best finish was in the 2014 World Cup, finishing fourth by losing badly to Germany 7-1 in the semifinals.

“I’ve been following football since I was a child, long before I thought about becoming a player, and I’ve never seen a situation as bad as this. The shirt lacks love, lacks determination, and most important of all: football.”

The team is currently gearing up for the CONMEBOL Copa America tournament, set to start on Friday, June 21 (IST).

But the team aces in the hole in the likes of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo --an exciting attacking pair. The world now has to watch their game against Costa Rica on June 25.

"I repeat: our performance has been one of the worst things I have ever seen. A shame. So I say here that I abandon  and won't watch any CONMEBOL Copa América game and won't celebrate any victory", ended Ronaldinho.
