"It has been such an honour to work at such a special club and to lead such a special team," Martino said in a statement. "I've enjoyed my stay at Inter Miami, and I will hold dear the memories made and the relationships forged here for the rest of my life. I depart with nothing but gratitude for my time here and would like to extend sincerest thanks to everyone that made it possible."

Martino was hired by Inter Miami in June 2023 as the club struggled at the bottom of the MLS standings. He delivered a remarkable turnaround, and they won the team's first trophies: the 2023 Leagues Cup and a Supporters' Shield for the league's best regular-season record in 2024.

On the success side, there was Lionel Messi, a fellow Argentine and former player during Martino's two tenures as coach of Argentina and Barcelona. Whilst at Inter Miami, together with Messi, he molded the team's performances into record-breaking feats, bringing the hopes of victory to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite their dominant 2024 regular season, the campaign reached an untimely conclusion as Atlanta United eliminated Inter Miami in the first round of the post-season playoffs.

Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas confirmed that the search for Martino's successor is nearly complete, with an announcement expected "in the next few days." Among the rumored candidates is Javier Mascherano, the former Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder, who shares close ties with Messi and Inter Miami star Luis Suarez.

"We are very near the end of the process," Mas said. "We got it down to three final candidates by Tuesday. We made a decision who we wanted the day before yesterday and we will announce in the next few days."
