Carlos Sainz will drive for Williams for the first time in the Formula One post-season tests in Abu Dhabi on December 10, the team said on Friday.
It is now that Sainz will leave Ferrari after three seasons for a season with Williams in 2025. The departure of Sainz from Ferrari means the avenue is clear for next year's new signing to Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton, who is expected from Mercedes.
The test at Yas Marina is one of the important post-season test events as it is the first step in the integration process of Sainz into the British-based Williams team.
This early chance will allow both Carlos and Williams to begin making known his relationship, the team said in a statement. "The test session will prove the perfect chance for Carlos to start getting settled in his new team environment, and he will drive the FW46 for the first time".
While Sainz is getting prepared for the new role, Hamilton won't be in a position to test with Ferrari as he has commercial commitments with Mercedes at the moment, making his first official outing in a Ferrari most probably under pre-season test from February 26-28, 2025, in Bahrain.
Abu Dhabi will also mark the last appearance for teams at the race tracks before the 2025 season begins.
