Wimbledon 2021: Berrettini, Sonego reach fourth round on rainy day

Berrettini romped to a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in one hour and 41 minutes for his 100th tour-level win. The match was suspended for one hour and 31 minutes with scores tied 3-3 in the first set. There was some more good news for Italy on Saturday as 23rd seed Lorenzo Sonego too made it to the fourth round only the third time that two Italians have reached this stage in the history of the tournament.

Shapovalov will face eighth seed from Spain, Roberto Bautista Agut, as he seeks to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the second time since the 2020 US Open. Bautista Agut beat Dominik Koepfer 7-5, 6-1, 7-6(4). Shapovalov, who has been seeded 10th here, fired 45 winners including 13 aces on Friday evening. He saved eight of the nine break points he faced en route to victory.

Djokovic defeated the Ukraine-born American Kudla 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(7) in two hours 17 minutes to secure his place in the fourth round of the championships. Djokovic, gunning for his sixth Wimbledon title, was too strong for the 114th ranked Kudla and though the American did put up a fight in the third set, the 34-year-old Serb was relentless and sealed victory in third set tiebreaker.
Wimbledon 2021: Sania-Bopanna enter second round of mixed doubles

Experienced duo Sania and Rohan, who have reunited on the circuit for mixed doubles in view of the Tokyo Olympic Games, beat Ankita and Ramanathan 6-2, 7-6(5) in just over an hour on Court 8. Sania, 34, and Bopanna, 41, were always in control in the first set but faced some resistance in the second. They won 74% points on first serve as compared to 68% by their opponents, who also committed a double fault.
Wimbledon 2021: Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev advance; Nishikori, Dimitrov ousted

Sixth seed Federer, who along with Rafael Nadal has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, the most in Open Era, was in great form as he defeated his French opponent, 7-6, 6-1, 6-4, spending nine minutes less than two hours at the Centre Court. The Swiss maestro sent down 10 aces, had no double fault, and won 84% points on his-first serve. He also slammed 50 winners as compared to 20 by Gasquet.

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty of Australia though beat Anna Blinkova of Russia 6-4, 6-3 to enter the third round. Elina was Magda's first-ever top-10 scalp. The Polish player committed three double faults but won three out of nine break-points to send the Ukrainian packing. She won 74 per cent of the points on first serve and 80 per cent on second.

Zverev, who lost in the second round of Halle Open, hammered 13 aces and committed only two double faults. Tennys hit eight aces and committed as many as six double faults. The 24-year-old German, who is yet to win a Grand Slam title, converted five of the 10 break points. Martinez surprised 13th seed Frenchman Monfils 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) to advance to the third round.
Wimbledon 2021: Sania-Bethanie stun sixth seed in doubles opener

On Thursday, Sania and her American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands defeated Alexa Guarachi of Chile and Desirae Krawczyk of the United States 7-5, 6-3 in a first round encounter played on Court 8 here. Sania, who has bagged three Grand Slam doubles titles and as many mixed doubles titles thus far, had won the Wimbledon ladies doubles title in 2015.

Murray, 34, was granted a wild card for this year's Wimbledon as the three-time Grand Slam champion had been suffering setbacks while trying to return to the tour after hip surgeries. The former world No. 1 spent three-and-a-half hours to see off 24th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round on Monday and needed to fight 20 minutes longer on Wednesday against Otte, who played at the grass-court Grand Slam for the first time, Xinhua reports.

Aryna, who is the world No. 4, committed 30 unforced errors but she converted five of the six break points as against three out of 12 by Katie. She fired 11 aces to Katei's three and won 67 per cent of first service points. No.3 seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine survived a scare in first round as Alison van Uytvanck of Belgium stretched her. Elina won 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
