Wimbledon 2022: Swiatek safely through to second round

Playing her first match since bagging the French Open title earlier this month, the 21-year-old Polish won her Centre Court contest 6-0, 6-3 in 75 minutes to be safely through to the second round. Swiatek has now matched Monica Seles's 36-match winning streak from 1990. A second-round win would tie Martina Hingis's season-opening 37-match winning streak in 1997.

After a slow start on Centre Court, Murray rallied past Duckworth 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the second round on Monday. The Scot will next play 20th seed John Isner, against whom he has an 8-0 ATP head-to-head record. The 35-year-old Murray used the underarm serve in the third set of his victory over Duckworth, winning the point as the Australian was left scrambling to get the ball back over the net.

A right knee injury to Jabeur, led to them withdrawing from the grass-court event in Eastbourne, the WTA said on Thursday. There was no immediate news about the seriousness of Jabeur's injury. Playing in her first event on tour since suffering an injury at last year's Wimbledon, the 40-year-old Serena has found a winning combination by pairing with singles World No.3 Jabeur for the first time.

The former world number has received a wild card for the singles main draw of the grass-court Grand Slam event. The Wimbledon main draw starts on Monday.
