Wimbledon ban on Russian and Belarusian players 'very unfair', says Nadal

Speaking ahead of the Madrid Open, Nadal said he understands the reason for the ban and sympathises with the players. "It's very unfair to my colleagues, they aren't to blame for what is happening with the war. I feel sorry for them and I wish it wasn't like this. In the end, we know that this is what it is. When the government puts measures in place, we have to follow them," he said.

Playing in his first match since Wimbledon, the fifth-seeded 25-year-old, who had suffered a thigh injury in the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic, used his backhand slice to telling effect in the third set to overcome Ramos-Vinolas. Berrettini has now won 15 of his past 17 matches and is 33-7 on the season.

Wimbledon 2021: Djokovic celebrates triumph by eating grass again

Soon after securing a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory, Djokovic plucked some grass from the Centre Court surface and chewed on it -- something he has done after each of his five previous triumphs here. He first did this in 2011 after beating Rafael Nadal for his first Wimbledon title. Djokovic had once explained why he celebrates in this manner at Wimbledon.
Wimbledon: Indian-American Banerjee wins boys' singles title

Samir, 17, suffered a wobble while serving for the opening set at 5-3 and lost his serve, allowing Viktor to level scores at 5-5. However, he regrouped himself and won the next two games to pocket the first set. He again raced through the second set, breaking his opponent's serve in the sixth game to take 4-2 lead. Viktor broke back in the next game, raising hopes of another fight back.
Elise, Hsieh clinch Wimbledon women's doubles title

From 3-6, 3-5 down, the No.3 seeds came all the way back, giving Hsieh her third title at the All-England Club and Mertens a third Grand Slam title overall on Saturday evening. The Belgian previously won the Australian Open in February with Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka and now has just a French Open title missing from her set, while Hsieh won Wimbledon in 2013 with China's Peng Shuai and 2019 with Czech Republic's Barbora Strycova.

Evonne Goolagong Cawley bagged the title twice, in 1971 and 1980. Ashleigh on Saturday lifted the Venus Rosewater Dish after defeating Karolina Pliskova in three sets in the final, winning 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3 in one hour and 55 minutes. And on the day of her biggest triumph, Ashleigh hoped that she had made Evonne proud by ending 41-year-old drought for Australia.

"It would mean everything," Djokovic had said of another Wimbledon title on Friday night. "That is why I am here. That is why I am playing. I imagined myself being in a position to fight for another Grand Slam trophy prior to coming to London. I put myself in a very good position," he added. Djokovic, who is into his seventh final at the All England club, is only the second male player after Roger Federer to reach 30 Grand Slam finals.
