The fresh notification came just a day after the Governor’s House issued a notification on Sunday saying any instruction from the state government or state education department was not binding on any faculty or non-faculty staff of any state university. Hinting at bringing a special motion condemning the functioning of the Governor, Education Minister Bratya Basu said a final decision will be taken by CM Mamata Banerjee.

“I received a message yesterday from someone who said that Abhishek will soon be arrested as all evidence from his computer had been retrieved. Yes they have retrieved some files from the computer and planted their own files there. But we are not fools.

Taking a dig at Mamata Banerjee on the corruption issue, Nadda said that no amount of evidence against her Cabinet colleagues will satisfy the Chief Minister. “What more proof does the Chief Minister want? Former state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee is behind the bars. Ultimately, all those involved in matters of corruption will have to land up in jail.

“The allegations of corruption involving crores of rupees are baseless. I am sure that ED will not summon her,” Dasgupta told a section of the media persons. His statements come after a section of the Trinamool Congress leadership gave clear hints of backing Jahan in the matter as they described the event as more of a media trial.

The question remains on whether she will completely rule out any negotiation with the country's oldest national party for the Lok Sabha polls as she had been doing in the last couple of months or send a message of friendship or totally remain silent and refrain from taking Congress' name in her speech.

He was injured in clashes on July 8 polling day and was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata on the same day. The deceased has been identified as Saifur Rahman, a local Trinamool Congress worker based out of Raghunathganj in Murshidabad district. He and his brother Maidul Rahman suffered severe injuries last Saturday following the blast of a crude bomb. 

For the numerical strengths of Trinamool and BJP in the state Assembly for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls, victory of six Trinamool candidates and one BJP candidate is assured. So, unless Trinamool fields any candidate for the seventh seat it can be said for certain that there will be no polling on July 24.

The exit poll has indicated that Trinamool Congress might lose its control over the zilla parishad, the highest tier in the three- tier panchayat system, in Cooch Behar district and BJP might take control over the zilla parishad there.

“On December 1, 2020, I was offered the chair of Deputy Chief Minister, just a few days before I joined the BJP. But I did not accept the offer since I was determined to quit Trinamool. I was not stripped of any of the ministerial chairs that I held when I was with Trinamool. I had resigned from those posts voluntarily.

Among the two issues in the fresh tussle between the two, the first is the continuing clashes and violence over the rural civic body polls, where the Governor decided to be "mobile" and "on-ground" by  making district tours interacting with the victims and their families.
