Amruta, acting as per the police's strategic advice, made an  offer' to help out Jaisinghani from the cases lodged against him if they were false as he claimed, said the investigating officer (IO), Ravi Sardesai.As per the 733-page charge sheet filed before the special ACB court on May 18 - some details of which are now available - the strategic conversation took place on February 24, four days after Amruta had lodged the case.

The observations came in Special Judge Rahul Rokde's bail order for the Ranas - who were granted relief on Wednesday and walked out of jail on Thursday - 12 days after they were arrested on April 23 for threatening to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside the private residence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Among other charges, the couple was slapped with Indian Penal Code Sec. 124A that deals with sedition and is already under a heated legal debate.

Special Public Prosecutor Pradip Gharat said the court also declined urgent hearing to the Ranas' bail application which will now come up only next Friday (April 29). The Ranas' lawyer Rizwan Merchant termed the police case as 'fake' and said that certain charges were added later on under pressures. He termed all the charges against them as baseless since the couple had not flouted the laws as contended.

A police officer said that they have registered a case invoking Sections 153(A) and Sec. 34 of Indian Penal Code, along with Sec. 37(1) 135 of Bombay Police Act, and further investigations are underway against the duo. The charges against the couple -- Navneet Rana, 36 and Ravi Rana, 40, who describe themselves as 'farmers' - pertain to disturbing peace and order, and making inflammatory statements, by the Khar Police Station following a complaint by Shiv Sena activists.

The Ranas claimed that they had called off their plans to go and recite Hanuman Chalisa at the chief minister's private residence 'Matoshri', hundreds of Shiv Sena and Yuva Sena activists laid a siege at the politician couple's home, demanding an apology for insulting Thackeray. Yuva Sena leader Varun Sardesai said it was "the victory of the party and the Ranas could not move out of their home" let alone go to the CM's home.
