Rohit was named India's limited-overs captain ahead of the start of the South Africa tour earlier this month. He was also appointed vice-captain of the Test side. However, he got injured (hamstring injury) during the training session in Mumbai and was later ruled out of the Test series against Proteas.

The 25-member India U-19 squad is having a preparatory camp at the NCA ahead of the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup, scheduled to be played in the UAE from December 23. And, Delhi's Yash Dhull who is also a part of the camp and will lead India U-19 team in ACC U19 Asia Cup has shared pictures with both Rohit and Jadeja. The duo's absence in Tests against the Proteas means that India will be tested on the opening front as well as in their lower-order batting and five bowlers' combination.

Sharma had been rested from Tests against New Zealand and was promoted as vice-captain ahead of trip to South Africa. But in a practice session in Mumbai, Sharma injured his left hamstring, thereby ruling him out of the series with Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal drafted as his replacement. Sharma had scored 906 runs in 21 innings at an average of 47.68 and was India's highest run-getter in Test cricket in 2021.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave the complete white-ball captaincy to Rohit Sharma, who successfully led India to a 3-0 win over New Zealand in the T20I series at home recently, while Kohli will remain captain of the Test side. Days before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE, Kohli had announced that he would step down as India's T20 captain after the showpiece tournament, but said he would like to continue as the ODI and Test skipper.

India's new One Day International captain Rohit Sharma has said that middle order batters of his team will have to prepare themselves to deal with the worst case scenario, in order to win ICC trophies going ahead. Sharma was on Wednesday declared new ODI captain by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Virat was reportedly sacked as ODI captain after he failed to voluntarily step down within 48 hours, as demanded by the BCCI. The cricket board has shown a lot of trust in Rohit Sharma and chose him India's new white ball captain.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India declared Rohit Sharma as India's ODI captain. On this decision the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has opened up and said that the board and selectors took this decision together. In addition to this he also said that the board and he personally had words with Virat Kohli over the decision. The tenure of Rohit Sharma as ODI captain is likely to begin in the series against South Africa in January.
