It was bound to happen after India's exit from the World Cup and on Wednesday the BCCI chose Rohit Sharma over Virat Kohli as India's white-ball captain, news agency PTI reported.

1. According to the media reports, the BCCI waited for the last 48 hours, for Kohli, who has already renounced T20 captaincy, to voluntarily step down from ODI leadership as well but he did not. And after his denial the BCCI opted Rohit Sharma, in place of Kohli.
2. The decision of the BCCI is driven by India's exit from the World Cup, although kohli refused to step out, but it was the BCCI's decision ultimately.
