Austin, who served as the 12th commander of United States Central Command, made these remarks during his confirmation hearing for the post of secretary of defence before the United States Senate Armed Services Committee.

The protesters were seen raising pro-freedom slogans and wanted the intervention of PM Narendra Modi and other world leaders for their freedom from Pakistan. The protesters said that Sindh is the home of Indus Valley Civilisation and Vedic religion, illegitimately occupied by the British Empire and was delivered by them to Pakistan in 1947.

A PIA spokesman said that a leasing dispute was going on between the PIA and an Irish company and the latter had filed a case in the UK six months ago and the Malaysian court took an ex-parte decision about the plane. Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said the Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur was in close contact with the Malaysian authorities to resolve the matter.

The PIA plane was seized on the orders of a local Malaysian court, the Geo News report said citing sources as saying. PIA had leased two aircraft, including the seized Boeing-777, from a Vietnamese company in 2015.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad said that Khalili, a former Vice President, arrived in Pakistan on a three-day visit on Monday, reports Xinhua news agency.

The blackout began at about 11.50 p.m. on Saturday when power failures were reported in all major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and Rawalpindi. According to the National Transmission and Despatch Company, the system had tripped, and it may take a while to restore power.

"India crossed the international border and did an act of war in which at least 300 were reported dead. Our target was different from theirs. We targeted their high command. That was our legitimate target because they are men of the military. We subconsciously accepted that a surgical strike -- a limited action -- did not result in any casualty. Now we have subconsciously told them that, whatever they will do, we'll do only that much and won't escalate," said Agha Hilaly.

After the shock police custody of Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir, a sitting member of the Pakistan parliament,on charges of hate speech, another senior leader of PTM and a senior Pashtun politician, Said Alam Mehsud was arbitrarily arrested from his home on January 3.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that terrorists fired on a Pakistani military post from the Afghan side of the border in the Mohmand tribal district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday night, Xinhua news agency reported.
