Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee -- nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was on Monday questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case pertaining to an alleged coal scam, has been again summoned by the probe agency to join the probe on March 29.

Three hours after Banerjee ordered the arrest of Hossain while on a visit to the site of the violence at the Bagtui village in Birbhum district, the latter was taken into custody. In her statement at the site, the Chief Minister said, "The kin of the victims said they telephoned Anirul and asked him to send police to Bagtui but he didn't." "I want him (Hossain) arrested. He can surrender but, otherwise, I want him to be arrested immediately," Banerjee told the state Director General of Police Manoj Malviya at Bagtui.

The agency has asked Banerjee and his wife to join the investigation on March 21-22. Abhishek Banerjee had on September 6, 2021, recorded his statement before the ED officials. He was interrogated for around six hours. But the probe agency was not satisfied and hence summoned him again along with his wife.In September 2021, the couple, via their counsel, had moved a plea before the Delhi High Court against the ED's summon.
