Presidential election will not be easy for BJP, says Mamata

Though the BJP won four states in the recent Assembly polls but winning the Presidential election will not be an easy task for it because they don't have even half of the legislators of the country, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday. The Presidential election is conducted through an electoral college with Parliament and legislative assembly members casting their votes in order of preference for the candidates in fray.

In a major development, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced that two former Union Ministers -- Shatrughan Sinha and Babul Supriyo -- will contest the upcoming West Bengal bypolls for the Trinamool Congress.The chief minister announced that Shatrughan Sinha will be the party's candidate for bypoll to Asansol Lok Sabha seat, and Babul Supiyo will be the candidate for Ballygunge Assembly constituency.

Mamata Banerjee does not have "national aspirations" and only wants to bring like-minded parties together to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, TMC leaders said, after the party's high-profile campaign in the Goa assembly polls failed to make any impression. The Chief Minister said after the results that the Trinamool Congress had just entered Goa three months before and the attempt was to make the name Trinamool known to the people of the state.
Battle for UP: Mamata shown black flags in Varanasi

Mamata went to take part in the Ganga Aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi and to express her annoyance over the incident, she sat on the ghat steps instead of a chair and watched the Ganga Aarti. The West Bengal chief minister's convoy was passing through Chetganj area when a group of Hindu Yuva Vahini workers started raising slogans like 'wapas jao' (go back) and waved black flags. They were restrained by the police present on the spot.
