Google announces not to attend Mobile World Congress 2021

Google said that following current COVID-19 travel restrictions and protocols, it "has made the decision to not exhibit at Mobile World Congress this year". "We will continue to collaborate closely with GSMA and support our partners through virtual opportunities. We look forward to this year's activities and seeing you in Barcelona in 2022," the company said in a statement to The Verge on Wednesday.
Google pledges 25mn euros for media literacy in Europe

In the coming weeks, the Fund will open for proposals from academics, nonprofits and publishers based in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the UK. Independent committees made up of industry experts will select the winning ideas and Google won't be involved in any decision making related to the Fund, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
Google testing Memory for Assistant to save, find everything

According to a report in 9to5Google, the feature is currently is being tested with Google employees. Google describes "Memory" as an "easy, quick way to save and find everything in one place." It allows you to save any screen content to Memory, including links to the original source when available. It will also save objects, posters, or handwritten notes, thoughts and reminders.
Android apps crashed for users, Google working on a fix

Google acknowledged issues with Gmail on Android on the Google Workspace status page, recommending using the desktop version until the issues are resolved. "We're aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a significant subset of users. The affected users are unable to access Gmail. We will provide an update, detailing when we expect to resolve the problem," Google said.
YouTube testing automatic product detection in videos

YouTube said that it is experimenting with a new feature that displays a list of products detected in some videos, as well as related products. "The feature will appear in between the recommended videos, to viewers scrolling below the video player," the company said in an update. "The goal is to help people explore more videos and information about those products on YouTube," it added.
Google Chrome 88 update fixes key zero-day bug

Google paid Rs 49 cr as bug bounty rewards in 2020

The figure was up from $6.5 million the tech giant paid in bug bounty rewards in 2019. "The incredibly hard work, dedication, and expertise of our researchers in 2020 resulted in a record-breaking payout of over $6.7 million in rewards, with an additional $280,000 given to charity," Google said in a statement on Thursday. In the Android Vulnerability Reward Programme (VRP), Google paid out $1.74 million in rewards.
Huawei's HarmonyOS a 'rip-off' of Google Android

During the Q4 2020 earnings call with analysts late on Tuesday, Pichai said that at YouTube, the company is building products to help creators benefit from two important trends -- live video and short-form video. "More than 0.5 million channels live-streamed on YouTube for the first time in 2020, from artists performing in their living rooms to churches moving their services online," Pichai informed.
