Tomato prices may stay high for another 2 months: Crisil

Tomatoes account for 10 per cent of the total vegetable production in India. "With standing crops damaged by excess rains in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, which are key suppliers of tomato during October-December, supply is down materially," the rating agency said.
India records 15% rise in export of agricultural, processed food products

According to the Quick Estimates released by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S), the overall export of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) products witnessed 14.7 per cent growth in terms of USD during April-October 2021 over the same period of the previous year.
India's Oct wholesale price inflation rises to over 12%

The annual rate of inflation, based on wholesale prices, rose to 12.54 per cent last month from 10.66 per cent in September. Similarly, on a YoY basis, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) data furnished by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has risen exponentially over October 2020, when it stood at 1.31 per cent.
Zomato's loss widens to Rs 430 cr as delivery costs rise

The company, which went public recently, had posted a loss of Rs 229 crore in the same period last year. According to CEO Deepinder Goyal, the losses went up owing to investments in the growth of its food delivery business. "Three reasons to be specific - a) increased spending on branding and marketing for customer acquisition, b) increased investments and growing share of smaller/emerging geographies in our business (which are less profitable today compared to more mature cities) and c) increased delivery costs due to unpredictable weather and increase in fuel prices," Goyal said in a statement.
Heinz launches gadget to squeeze the most out of a sauce packet

Earlier this month, the world's largest producer of ketchup announced the Packet Roller, a ketchup bottle-shaped gadget that allows users to squeeze the most out of a condiment packet, CNN reported. "Do not click 'purchase' unless you are prepared to change everything about the way you sauce," the Heinz Packet Roller website says. The roller goes for $5.70.
Smooth and transparent procurement from this season: Govt

Last year, procurement of foodgrains under the minimum support price (MSP) continued despite disruptions in logistics during the initial days of the lockdown in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. "However, the government increased the number of procurement centres compared to previous years to facilitate the farmers in selling their produce at the nearest procurement centre maintaining Covid protocols," Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal said on Monday.

India's June WPI inflation eases on lower food prices

However, the inflation rate alarmingly remained above the 12 per cent mark. The WPI rose by 12.07 per cent in June from a rise of 12.94 per cent in May. The monthly rate of inflation, in June 2020, stood at (-) 1.81 per cent. On a sequential basis, the month over month change in WPI index for June 2021 as compared to May, was 0.75 per cent. WPI food index rose by 6.66 per cent from 8.11 per cent reported for May.
Now retail inflation zooms to over 6% in May

According to the data furnished by the National Statistical Office (NSO), the CPI rose by 6.30 per cent last month from 4.23 per cent in April. Region wise, the CPI Urban rose by 6.04 per cent last month from 4.71 per cent in April. Similarly, the CPI Rural climbed by 6.48 per cent in May from 3.75 per cent in April.
