UK shop price inflation hits new high

According to the BRC, prices have yet to peak, reports Xinhua news agency. Shop price annual inflation accelerated to a record 8.9 per cent in March -- up from 8.4 per cent in February, the BRC said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, food price inflation soared to 15 per cent in March, up from 14.5 per cent in February.
Approximately 11,000 MT of wheat procured in current Rabi season: FCI chief

Food Corporation of India (FCI) chairman Ashok Meena told media persons on Tuesday that wheat has been procured from Madhya Pradesh in Ujjain, Dewas, Indore, Shajapur and Sehore among others. It is also worthwhile to note that the total procurement last year during the month of March itself was around 10,000 metric tonnes only, whereas this year this figure has already been crossed on March 27, 2023, he informed further.

Food prices in Sweden record highest surge in 7 decades

Statistics Sweden said on Wednesday that food and non-alcoholic beverages became 20.95 per cent more expensive between February 2022 and February 2023, compared with the same period of the previous 12 months, reports Xinhua news agency. This is the biggest annual increase of food prices in Sweden since the beginning of the 1950s, it said.

In the first week of e-auction, quantities ranging from of 100 to 499 million tonnes attracted maximum demand. After this, the demand was for quantities of 500-1,000 million tonnes, followed by that of 50-100 million tonnes, thus indicating that small and medium flour millers and traders actively participated in the auction.
E-auction of wheat for sale in open market begins

Official sources said that more than 1,100 bidders came forward for participation in the e-auction.A quantity of 8.88 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was sold on the first day of the auction in 22 states.In Rajasthan, bidding would be conducted today, while further sale of wheat through e-auction will continue throughout the country
Food delivery platform Grubhub to pay $3.5 mn for misleading customers

Grubhub will pay $800,000 to Washington, DC as a civil penalty while the remaining $2.7 million "will be paid back to the affected customers." Those with active Grubhub accounts will receive a refundable credit and if the credit is not used within 90 days the money will be sent to customers in the form of a check.
Centre to roll out new integrated food security scheme on Jan 1

As per the decision made by the Cabinet, the new scheme would provide free food grains to 81.35 crore beneficiaries under NFSA, for the year 2023. The scheme would also ensure effective and uniform implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA). According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the government has social and legal commitment to the people of the nation -- a dignified life by ensuring them access to food and nutritional security through availability of adequate quantity of quality foodgrains.
