Farmers protest

SSM leader Balbir Singh Rajewal will contest from Samrala, and Prem Singh Bhangu from Ghanair. The SSM has ruled out alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party. In a setback to the SSM, its prominent partner at the year-long farm agitation on the national capital borders, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan), announced this week that it would neither contest the Assembly elections nor support the SSM.

On Wednesday, The Prime Minister's rally in Ferozepur had to be cancelled due to a security lapse after some protesters blocked a route and forced his convoy to spend about 20 minutes on a flyover. The Prime Minister was enroute the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala when the incident happened. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday claimed in a statement that they had planned protests on receiving the news of Prime Minister's proposed visit to Punjab on January 5.

Tikait also clarified that he had no intentions of contesting elections and warned people against using his photographs on political hoardings. "I have nothing to do with any political party," he said. Tikait was addressing farmers, late on Wednesday night, in Sisauli village when he returned home after 383 days of protest.

The farmers will take out victory march to celebrate their success of repeal of the farm laws. At the spot, farmers can be seen removing bamboo sticks used for erecting and tying tarpaulins and loading them in tractors. They hugged each other and bade good bye. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) decided to suspend their agitation after the government repealed the contentious laws and assured them to fulfill their rest of the demands.

While calling off the protest he also said that farmers will take out victory marches on December11, the day when all farmers will be returning to their homes. Another farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni said that if their demands are not met till January 15, then they may take a call on resuming the protest.

SKM has said that the farmers have decided to offer special prayers at Golden Temple on December 13 to celebrate their historic win. The SKM has also received the revised proposal from the Union government as demanded. They also received the revised proposal from the Union government as demanded.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Wednesday said that the farmer's protest has not yet ended, it has been just postponed for now. The SKM has also agreed to the draft proposal prepared by the Central government. The farmers' body is expected to make a major announcement on Thursday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19 announcemened that the three farm laws will be repealed and also said that a committee ould be formed to discuss how Minimum Support Price (MSP) can be made more effective, how zero budget farming can be promoted, and how crop patterns can be changed in a scientific manner.

Among other questions, the MPs had sought to know the number of cases registered against farmers in connection with the agitation; the data on the number of farmers who died during the agitation held in and around the National Capital; and whether the government proposes to provide financial assistance to the kin of farmers who died during the said agitation.

He said though the Central government has announced repeal of three farm laws, the farmers' problems will not come to an end with this as the government is trying to bring in various anti-farmer laws. Tikait was addressing 'Maha Dharna' organised by All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC)-Telangana unit in Hyderabad to mark one year of the countrywide agitation by the famers against the three agri laws.
