SAI appoints six foreign coaches for athletics till Paris Olympics

The step will strengthen the preparations for Paris 2024 and help in the long-term development of track and field athletes in India, SAI said in a tweet on Monday. The six coaches that have been appointed include Jozef Lisowski of Poland who will be for sprints disciplines 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m relay while Scott Simmons of the United States will train the middle and long-distance runners.
Anju Bobby George gets World Athletics' Woman of the Year award

Anju made history when she won the bronze medal in the long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. Anju, a senior vice-president of the Indian Athletics Federation, mentors many young girls through her training academy which has already helped many to shine at international level athletics meets, including U-20 gold medallist Shaili Singh. She is also chairman of the Indian Olympic Association's Athletes Commission.
World record holder athlete Agnes Tirop dead in apparent stabbing in Kenya

According to a statement by Athletics Kenya, Tirop, 25, was found dead in their home in ITen after she was allegedly stabbed by her husband. Reports said that the police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident which happened just over a month after Tirop competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
National Open Athletics: Harmilan Kaur sets national record in 1500m

Harmilan, undefeated in eight national-level 1500m races since January 2020, has shown rapid progress, improving from 4:14.68 in the Khelo India University Games in Bhubaneswar last year to 4:08.70 and 4:08.27 in the Federation Cup (March 16) and Indian Grand Prix 4 (June 21) respectively in Patiala. On Thursday, she capped it with a National mark, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) said in a release on Thursday.
Paralympics: Nishad wins silver in high jump, second medal for India on Sunday

Nishad finished second behind Roderick Townsend of the United States, who set a world record by clearing 2 metres and 15 centimetres. The 21-year-old Nishad who hails from Una in Himachal Pradesh started with 1.89 metres which he cleared easily. He cleared 1.94 in his second effort and 1.98 in his third jump. His best effort of 2.06 came in his fifth jump.
World Athletics U20: Shaili wins silver in long jump

Shaili, who came into the final with the best performance in the qualifying stage with an effort of 6.48 metres, improved on her personal best with a superb effort of 6.59 in the women's long jump final. However, she lost out on the gold medal to Sweden's Maja Askag, the European junior champion, who cleared 6.60 metres. Mariia Horielova of Ukraine took the bronze medal with a season best effort of 6.50 metres.
Thompson-Herah runs second fastest-ever women's 100m

Elaine, whose previous best was the 10.61 she set in retaining her 100m title in Tokyo, overhauled the fast-starting Olympic silver medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to bolster the position she already held as the second-fastest ever behind the 1988 10.49 world record belonging to the late Florence Griffith-Joyner of the United States.
