Index of eight core industries rise by 0.1% in October
The production of fertilisers, steel, coal and electricity generation increased in October 2022 over the corresponding month of last year, according to a data released by the Commerce ministry said. Fertilisers production increased by 5.4 per cent in October, 2022 over October, 2021.

Official sources said that the dues of states towards generation and transmission companies have come down with timely payment of just four EMIs. For payment of EMI of Rs 24,680 crore, five states have taken loan of Rs 16,812 crore from PFC and REC and eight states have opted to make their own arrangement, sources said.

Traditionally, electricity demand in India peaks during the warmer months of April to August, subject to weather patterns. "We expect monthly electricity demand in 2022 to peak at around 132 billion kWh, 15 per cent higher than the average monthly demand in 1Q22, similar to 2021 and 2019 when peak monthly demand was 15 per cent and 19 per cent higher, respectively, than average monthly demand in 1Q21," the credit rating agency said.

The share of nuclear power in the total electricity generation is planned to be increased by adding more nuclear power capacity in the country, Union Atomic Energy and Space Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh said.

It said that impact of the third Covid wave on power demand remains lower, given the less stringent curbs imposed by state governments. "Although any stringent lockdowns in case of the emergence of any strong Covid wave could derail the growth in power demand," the agency said in a report. On the other hand, Ind-Ra pointed out that coal availability could pose a risk to overall demand and thus, PLF recovery, given higher reliance on domestic coal as international prices remain high.
