Racewalkers Ram Baboo, Manju Rani set new national records; breach qualification mark for Asian Game

En route to their win, both the race walkers also breached the qualifying standards for the Asian Games set by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Uttar Pradesh's Ram Baboo won the men's 35km race walk after clocking two hours, 31 minutes, and 36 seconds, improving his previous national record of 2:36.34, set at the National Games in Gandhinagar last year.
Asian Indoor Athletics Championships: Jyothi Yarraji, Jeswin Aldrin set national records to win silver medals

Jyothi Yarraji completed her race in 8.13s -- 0.03s faster than her previous record. Yarraji, who also holds the national record in the outdoor women's 100m hurdles event, had topped the qualification on Saturday with a timing of 8.16s. In the final, however, Japan's Masumi Aoki, who barely made it to the final after clocking 8.51s to finish eighth in the qualification, stormed ahead to claim the gold in 8.01s. Chen Jiamin of China came third in 8.15s.
World Athletics approves applications of six Russians to compete as neutral athletes

Last year, the World Athletics Council imposed sanctions against the Member Federations of Russia and Belarus as a consequence of the invasion of Ukraine and said that Russian athletes, who have received ANA status for 2022, are excluded from World Athletics Series events for the foreseeable future.
P.T. Usha complains about encroachments at her athletics school

Usha said this was noticed at the 30 acre facility of her school which has several girls who are inmates. "We have seen some construction that has begun in our property that was given to us for the school. I have lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. We have to be very careful as there are girls and hence safety and security are a must," said Usha.
PT Usha becomes first woman IOA president

Legendary athlete PT Usha was on Saturday officially elected as the first woman president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) during the governing body's polls. Usha -- a multiple Asian Games gold medallist -- was declared elected unopposed for the top post. The polls were held under the supervision of Supreme Court-appointed retired SC judge L Nageswara Rao.
National Open Athletics: Manu improves record three times in javelin throw

With his first throw, the 22-year-old broke the meet record set at 79.04m by Ravinder Singh Khaira in Lucknow in 2016. He remained the only athlete to breach the 80m mark on Tuesday, adding the National Open title to the top prize he won in the National Inter-State Championships in Chennai in June this year.
