In its Q2 2023, the company reported 157.8 million subscribers, compared to 161.8 million in the previous quarter. The key reason behind the decline was Disney+Hotstar, which lost 8 per cent of its subscriber base -- from 57.5 million in Q1 2023 to 52.9 million in Q2.
Disney to use viewing history for better park experience

At an event, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said that the company is working on a way to personalise experiences on the basis of how someone interacts with its physical and digital services, reports The Verge. "If you are on Disney+, we should be aware of what happened, what you experienced, what you liked, the last time you visited a park, and vice versa," Chapek was quoted as saying in the report.
Disney+ will not show ads to preschoolers on new streaming plan

The company confirmed this to TechCrunch and added that the lighter ad load and no commercials for preschool content will be the plan for the initial launch. Disney+ will have fewer ads than its sister service Hulu's ad-supported tier, which shows ads for nearly twice as much time (approximately 7.4 ads), the report said.

In its earnings report on Thursday, the company said that across Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu, Disney reported a total of 174 million subscribers. Disney also beat estimates on earnings and revenue, boosting the stock by about 6 per cent in after-hours trading, reports CNBC. Analysts remain optimistic that Disney+ will reach its goal of 230 million to 260 million subscribers by 2024.
Disney+ now has 103M paid subscribers

The streaming service has gained more than three million subscribers since March, which was the last time subscriber details were shared. In April 2020, Disney+ had just 33 million subscribers, so the service's growth has been astronomical, exceeding all expectations in the year and a half since launch, MacRumors reported.
