The study found the variant is four times more resistant to messenger RNA vaccines than earlier strains of Omicron, which include Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines, Xinhua news agency reported. The strain is "hypercontagious" and is contributing to increases in hospitalisations and ICU admissions, said the Mayo Clinic in a report on Thursday.

During Covid-19, college students experienced more obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms, finds a new study. The study found that college students tested during the peak of the pandemic reported a higher incidence of two key OCD symptoms -- unacceptable thoughts and fear of contamination. "It is exciting to be able to leverage this data to add to the study of how the pandemic has impacted the college students' mental health," Mitroff added.
Covid infection may up risk of psychiatric disorders: Study

Researchers at Oregon State University in the US found that Covid patients had a 3.8 per cent rate of developing a psychiatric disorder compared with 3.0 per cent for other respiratory tract infections. The 0.8 per cent difference amounts to about a 25 per cent increased relative risk. The team looked specifically at anxiety disorders and mood disorders and found a minor but significant increase in risk for anxiety disorders and no change in risk for mood disorders.
Dogs can detect Covid-19 faster than rapid antigen test: Study

The study, published in the PLOS ONE, showed that dogs were 97 per cent effective at detecting Covid infection compared to PCR tests - the most accurate Covid test. On the other hand, the nasal antigen tests detected 84 per cent of positive Covid infections. The findings suggest a potentially less invasive and quicker Covid testing alternative.
