500 oxygenated beds to be made operational in Delhi in 3 days

The Delhi government had sought medical officers and paramedical staff from the Ministry of Home Affairs to man the Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre in Chhatarpur, which is being re-operationalised. The covid care centre and hospital was closed on February 23, 2021.

Puri, HoD of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, PGIMER, said that if the drug has to be rationally used, it should be used within the first seven to eight days in Covid-19 patients developing room air hypoxia, meaning oxygen saturation less than 94 per cent. Remdesivir was the first drug to be approved by the US FDA for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
Arvind Kejriwal urges UP, Haryana to unite against Covid-19

Kejriwal's remarks came a day after the Delhi Government blamed both the Haryana and UP governments for blocking oxygen supply to Delhi. Addressing a digital briefing, Kejriwal also pledged to provide resources such as oxygen, essential medicines and medical personnel, including doctors, to other States as and when these were in a position of being shared.

India reports 3.14 lakh new Covid cases, highest-ever daily spike

Since April 15, India has continued to report over 2 lakh new Covid-19 cases on a daily basis. There were 2,95,041 new cases on Wednesday, 2,59,170 cases on April 20, 2,73,510 on April 19, 2,61,500 on April 18, 2,34,692 on April 17, 2,17,353 on April 16 and 2,00,739 on April 15.

At a talk organised by the Centre's citizen engagement platform, MyGovIndia, Guleria said one of the treatments for Covid-19 is oxygen, but it has to be used judiciously. He added that when a person has pneumonia or chronic lung disease when saturation falls, then oxygen is a treatment, given sometimes for a short duration, but sometimes people are on long-term oxygen therapy.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank tests positive for Covid-19

After testing positive, Nishank appealed to all those people who had come in contact with him in the last few days to get themselves tested. The Minister said, "I want to inform all people that I had undergone a Covid test whose report came out positive. I am taking medication and treatment as per the advice of my doctors. I request all those who came in contact with me recently to get themselves tested."

While Pune currently has an 'active case' load of 117,251, Mumbai follows next with 82,671 'active cases'. These figures are likely to shoot up drastically - 185,162 in Pune and 146,065 in Mumbai 'active cases', respectively - by May 2, as per a projection made by the State Public Health Department.
