Wildfire in California prompts evacuations, road closures
Officials with the US Forest Services estimated the size of the blaze, known as the Head Fire, to be around 2,700 acres as of Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported. The fire exploded Tuesday night in the Klamath National Forest, which covers more than 2,650 square miles (about 6,863 square km) in Northern California and Southern Oregon.
McKinney Fire grows to become largest in California this yr
The wildfire began on Friday afternoon in the Klamath National Forest in Siskiyou County near the California-Oregon border, reports Xinhua news agency. The Alisal Fire is now 16,801 acres with only 5 per cent containment and a total of 1,306 firefighting personnel are working to contain the blaze, Xinhua news agency quoted the Santa Barbara County Fire Department as sayinf in its latest update on Thursday.
Wildfire in southern California triggers evacuation orders
The Alisal Fire started Monday afternoon near the Alisal Resevoir, north of the US Highway 101 along coastal Santa Barbara County, Inciweb said, adding "the fire is burning in dense chaparral and grass and is being pushed by strong winds and growing at a rapid rate of speed." The blaze has become the 15th largest wildfire in California history and while there were no reported deaths, seven firefighters and two civilians have been injured, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) said in a report on Saturday. Fire behaviour in west zone continued to decrease on Friday night thanks to a slight rise in humidity levels and decrease in temperatures across the entire area, Xinhua news agency quoted the report as syaing.
Caldor Fire in California surpasses 200,000 acres
A forecast of heavy winds threatened to push the Caldor Fire further into the Tahoe Basin, as flames on several fronts moved closer to residential communities and ski resorts, according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday. The entire South Lake Tahoe area has been under evacuation orders since Monday, with new evacuations across the Nevada border, reports Xinhua news agency.
All California national forests to be closed due to wildfires
A statement signed by California's Regional Forester, Jennifer M. Eberlien, said the authority had made the difficult decision "to better provide public and firefighter safety due to the ongoing California wildfire crisis".This closure was scheduled to start from Tuesday until September 17, the statement said. Last week, Forest Service's nine national forests in Northern California had been closed due to extreme fire.
