7,000 more residents evacuated in California due to wildfires
Over 6,000 of the people evacuated came from Calaveras County, where a wildfire dubbed Airola Fire burned about 700 acres and threatened many communities, Xinhua news agency quoted the CalOES as saying on Friday. As of Friday, most of the evacuation orders triggered by the Airola Fire were downgraded to evacuation warnings, but many parts of Calaveras County and its surrounding area were still inundated with smoky conditions and limited visibility.

"California is grateful for President Biden's swift approval of our request and the ongoing work of our heroic firefighters and emergency responders to protect communities across Northern California," state Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement. He noting that the declaration makes vital resources available as the state continue to work in lockstep with local and federal partners to meet the challenge of these catastrophic wildfires and support communities in recovery, reports Xinhua news agency.
Wildfires prompt California Guv to request major disaster declaration
According to Thom Porter, chief of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (Cal Fire), Caldor Fire, which started on August 14, has become the top firefighting priority in the nation, reports Xinhua news agency. As of Tuesday, it has burned down 117,704 acres of land with only 9 per cent containment. Even though 2,119 firefighters were battling the blaze, the Incident Management Team (IMT) identified a long list of "critical resource needs" requested on Monday, including 330 engines, 60 hand crews, 17 division supervisors, and 40 other overhead personnel.
Caldor Fire in California scorches over 100,000 acres
The currently most active fire in California cut a 64.3 km stretch of the Highway 50 in the Sierra Nevada Mountains area, said the Inciweb, an interstate incident information system, in an update on Sunday. As a transcontinental road in the US, the California portion of Highway 50 is a busy route linking the state's capital city and Lake Tahoe, one of the most famous tourist attractions in the country, reports Xinhua news agency.
Dixie Fire grows to 2nd largest in California's history
Dixie Fire, raging in Northern California, was at 463,477 acres and only 21 per cent contained, said the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) in an incident report on Sunday. The fire surpassed the Mendocino Complex Fire, which scorched 459,123 acres in 2018, reports Xinhua news agency. nIn California's history, it's now only behind the massive 2020 August Complex Fire, which burned 1,032,648 acres, according to Cal Fire.
California wildfire burns over 244,000 acres
The Dixie Fire in Northern California, which started about 10 miles northeast of Paradise, is California's largest blaze so far this year and now covers 244,888 acres in Butte and Plumas counties. The fire erupted on July 14, has burnt acres of land. The fire was contained to 32 per cent as reported on Sunday. Till now 67 structures have been destroyed and nine structures have been damaged due to the blaze.
Huge California wildfire destroys multiple buildings
The blaze showed no sign of slowing its rush northeast from the Sierra Nevada forest region after doubling in size between July 9-10, Xinhua news agency quoted Inciweb as saying on Sunday. Beckwourth Complex Fire, the largest wildfire raging in the US state of California, has so far scorched 83,926 acres of land with only 8 per cent containment and destroyed multiple buildings.
Massive California wildfire rages unabated
The latest report showed that firefighters are battling the blaze in mountainous areas and providing structure defence in communities nearby, where 41 buildings, including 27 homes, had been damaged as of Tuesday, reports Xinhua news agency. Residents were also told that the firefighting force was bolstered by resources released from the two other big fires to the north.
Three major wildfires raging in N.California
The Lava Fire in Siskiyou County, which started on June 24, has burned nearly 24,460 acres with 24 per cent contained as of Saturday, Xinhua news agency quoted the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) as saying. The Tennant Fire, which broke out on the eastern side of the Klamath National Forest on June 28, was around 10,012 acres.
Arizona wildfire scorches 148,299 acres of land
The wildfire, dubbed Telegraph Fire, started on June 10 in Pinal County and located less than 1 mile from the 250-person community, Top-of-the-World, reports Xinhua news agency. It has become the sixth largest wildfire in Arizona history. Over 1,000 crews were fighting the blaze, Inciweb said on Wednesday. Crews had little help from the hot, dry weather, Pinal County Emergency Management Director Chuck Kmet said in a briefingt.
