Rakesh Asthana: Know all about new Delhi Police Commissioner
Asthana has been appointed to the top position of Delhi Police for one year – till 31st July 2022. Prior to this, he was in charge of the Director-General of the Border Security Force (BSF) since 2020 and was set to retire on 31 July 2021. Delhi Assembly passes resolution against Rakesh Asthana's appointment
Questioning his appointment, AAP legislators raised this issue under rule-55 of the Delhi assembly on the first day of its monsoon session. Sanjeev Jha, AAP MLA, who was the first to speak, said appointment of Rakesh Asthana as the new Delhi POlice Commissioner was the "violation of a Supreme Court judgment".
Rakesh Asthana takes charge as Delhi Police Commissioner
Asthana arrived at the Police Headquarter on Wednesday morning and took charge in the presence of several senior officials. He was accorded the ceremonial guard of honour upon his arrival. Asthana will be in-charge of the Delhi Police for a period of one year till July 31, 2022. His date of retirement was July 31, which has been extended by one year "as a special case in public interest".

The Ministry of Home Affairs said in an order, "Consequent upon the appointment of Rakesh Adthana, IPS, (GJ:84) Director General, BSF, as Commissioner of Police, Delhi, the competent authority has approved that S.S. Deswal, IPS (Hy:84), Director General of ITBP, shall hold the additional charge of post of DF, BSF, vice Asthana, till the appointment and joining of the regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier."
Another fake call centre busted in Delhi, 19 arrested
In a major crackdown, the Delhi Police on Wednesday said it has busted a fake call centre for allegedly impersonating as officials of the Ministry of Finance Department of the US, which provides free grants to the selective citizens and arrested 19 people. A senior police official said that the Cyber Cell of the South District police of Delhi Police busted an international call centre cheating US citizens from Malviya Nagar area.
Delhi Police file FIR against Twitter on NCPCR complaint on child porn
A Delhi Police spokesperson said that acting on a complaint received from NCPCR regarding availability of child sexual abuse and child pornographic material on Twitter, an FIR under relevant sections of IPC, IT Act and POCSO Act has been registered by Cyber Crime Unit, and investigation has been taken up. The NCPCR also sought a report from the police within three days.
Balaji Srivastav gets additional charge of Delhi Police commissioner
Balaji is currently holding charge of Special Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) in Delhi Police. He was earlier with the Research Analysis Wing before returning to Delhi a few years ago. Special Cell detains 4 from Kargil in Israel Embassy blast case
According to Delhi Police, the Special Cell in a joint operation with a central intelligence agency and the Kargil Police has detained four persons from Kargil in connection with the conspiracy to plan and execute terror activities in the national capital. The four persons detained have been identified as Nazir Hussain, 26, Zulfikar Ali Wazir, 25, Aiaz Hussain, 28, and Muzammil Hussain, 25, all residents of Kargil in Ladakh.
Delhi Police issue challan to Robert Vadra's vehicle
According to a senior Delhi Police officer, a challan was issued on Vadra's car after it was hit from behind on the Barapullah flyover in south-east Delhi, apparently after sudden application of break. The officer said that Vadra was going to his office on Wednesday morning while his security personnel were accompanying him in another vehicle.
