Quoting defence sources, news agency ANI reported that the test was carried out to validate new technologies and equipment on the missile which is now lighter than before. On December 9, Indian troops successfully thwarted an attempt by Chinese soldiers to transgress the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang sector.

The tests were held off the coast of Odisha at 10:55 AM. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) labelled these Agni-Prime missiles as the newer generation of the Agni lineage of missiles. The Defence agency said that Agni-P will provide flexibility in transportation and mobility to the armed forces.
