The Delhi police's Economic Offences Wing has arrested the brother of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, Deepak Gupta, in connection with a probe into allegations of fund misappropriation in the company. Deputy Commissioner of Police, EOW, Raja Banthia said in a statement on Friday that Deepak Gupta, accused was interrogated and arrested in case as per law. Deepak Gupta is among those named in an FIR filed against Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain and her family member in May 2023.
Deepak Gupta, the brother-in-law to Madhuri Grover, has been arrested on the night of September 19. During investigation, it was found that accused Deepak Gupta was the Procurement Head at relevant time in the complainant company and he used to acknowledge the bogus deliveries of standees etc., on the basis of which the payments were made to the non-existent firms," a statement by the EOW said. Earlier, another accused in this case, Amit Bansal, was also arrested by the EOW.
"Gupta's role in the matter is also substantiated from questioning of accused Amit Bansal who was nabbed earlier and currently behind judicial custody, the statement said further. It has been alleged that Ashneer Grover (Founder & Ex-Director of BharatPe), his wife Madhuri Jain Grover and others indulged in criminal misappropriation of the company's funds, based on various forged documents.". As a result, the alleged fictitious vendors and HR consultancy firms were paid resulting in a wrongful loss of Rs 81 crore to the complainant company. On December 2022, BharatPe had filed a criminal complaint against Ashneer Grover, Madhuri Grover, Shwetank Jain brother of Madhuri, Suresh Jain father-in-law of Ashneer and Deepak Gupta brother-in-law of Ashneer and Madhuri.
